Sunday night, I was having a moment and was really bored with being at my house, so I took myself to a movie.
Bused up to the Landmark, which shows all the arty flicks. Killed some time before the show at the local bookstores. BN had a really sad selection of books I like, but Borders sucked me in. So many art books, and DVDs, and whatnot.
I have been dying to see Atonement for months. And the Golden Globes nominations only confirmed what I already suspected. I love Joe Wright's holistic approach to directing; the trailer looked gorgeous and artfully paced. James McAvoy is tasty. And I covet the costumes. While I haven't read the book, I think the film was excellent. The screenplay and visuals nicely created a secondary narrative, making you sympathetic to more than one character and muddling the protagonist position. Achingly lovely film. Completely recommend.
