URTA recap

I am only now starting to fully process my URTA interviews, which were yesterday. When I got home at 2, I just fixed a quick lunch and climbed into bed to watch the Scrubs marathon. It was so nice to just lay there with no guilt about not running around like a crazy person.

Yesterday started bright and early. Well, just early. So early it was not bright out yet. Showered. Blew dried my hair, put on makeup and my suit. (which made so much sense when Sara Falconer laughed about this experience basically being a strange form of speed dating.) Clunked down the stairs to fix some oatmeal before catching the bus. And my lovely landlady took pity on my plight and drove me into town for my interviews, which took the stress level down a notch.

Met at 8.30AM in the lobby for a final briefing and handing out schedules. Scoped the competition. Did my fair share of psyching out before my first interview. Chatted briefly with the Flaky Intern.

Indiana
- went really well. They seemed very impressed by my visual research and concept for Mother Courage. Woman also knew one of my recommenders and was from Charlottesville.

South Carolina - had great suck potential but felt good. Talked with the interviewer about what I had learned in 1 year since last we met. Talked about my intership, shows I had seen. This is my most exciting prospect.

Illinois State - My interviewer from last year didn't seem to remember me. Went well enough but no magic.

UCLA - least likely. Asked me some of the strangest questions. "What artist has most influenced your art?" Talked about Julie Taymor's work, which involved a certain amount of bullshitting. But he was underwhelmed by my plan to teach at the undergraduate level.

And I got to use my experience to help J. prepare for her undergrad interviews over margarita. Asked her questions I was asked, made up some new ones. Now she feels prepared.
