PhD freak-out

It's taken almost 2 days to process it, and even get excited about it.

I got an email from UCSB, saying that the committee had met, and they REALLY liked my application. They want to find a date for me to come out there. And they threw out the word "fellowship."

Holy crap!

I was flabbergasted. Partly because I got the email after Martini Night. Partly because it's only January. Partly because I know they are still missing one of the letters. And partly because the whole grad process has always been so dicey that good news never comes so soon. Basically, I know my work, and while it's good, I never really thought of myself as all that.

Spent most of yesterday in a Billy Elliot state of shock. The idea of actually doing PhD in a real way, couple with the idea of doing it across the country is kinda wild. Sitting in the IART seminar, I kinda lost the train of logic. Lots of big, meaningless words. Yesterday, I rocked theory, actually sort of understanding and parsing phenomenology. Ironically, it was the coldest morning so far, as I climbed up the hill in 2F. And scraping ice off the car made the idea of living at the beach sound better and better.

I am not 100% sold on UCSB (or them on me). I still have applications out at Wisconsin and Oregon. Still might apply to Ohio.
